Nursing hip strain, Mayer withdraws from Australian Open

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Florian Mayer of Germany has withdrawn from the men's singles pull at the Australian Open with the hip strain. The International Tennis Federation said Sunday the 20th-seeded Mayer would be replaced by South Africa's Rik de Voest, who got the main pull spot after the lottery involving the 4 highest-ranked players who lost in qualifying. De Voest will play Lu Yen-hsun of Taiwan in the first round Monday on Court 13 at Melbourne Park.
